Emergency Services
Guardian Equine Veterinary Services understands that emergencies happen and we are available to service our established clients off-schedule as such situations arise.
Considering Purchasing a Horse? Here’s Why a Pre-Purchase Exam is Crucial:
A pre-purchase exam is a vital step in the horse-buying process, providing comprehensive insight into the horse’s current health status, potential underlying issues, and suitability for your intended use.
Our approach is tailored to your specific needs, aiming to equip you with detailed information essential for making an informed purchase decision. During the evaluation, horses are neither “passed” nor “failed” but thoroughly assessed based on your objectives and requirements.
Key Components of the Exam:
Routine Elements:
- General physical examination
- Ocular assessment
- Cardiovascular evaluation (both at rest and post-exercise)
- Lameness assessment, including flexion tests and dynamic evaluation
Optional Components:
- Digital radiographic survey
- Standard bloodwork (CBC, biochemistry, Coggins test, drug screening)
We emphasize the importance of objectively evaluating your goals and expectations for the potential purchase. Feel free to ask us any questions before or during the exam to ensure you’re making the best decision for your future equine partner.

Proper dental care is a vital aspect of maintaining your horse’s overall health and performance levels within a routine wellness program.
At Guardian Equine Veterinary Services, we emphasize the significance of regular preventative dental care to ensure your horse’s well-being and optimize their athletic capabilities.
Please contact us if your horse is exhibiting any of the following clinical signs:
- Dropping feed or losing weight
- Difficulty chewing
- Bit chewing
- Difficulty riding
It’s important to recognize that dental abnormalities can have serious consequences, including interference with digestion, colic, chronic jaw and neck stiffness, and even lameness.
During our comprehensive examination, we employ a full-mouth speculum and gentle sedation to facilitate a thorough assessment and effective treatment.
Our goal is to ensure that your horse receives the highest standard of dental care, promoting their overall health and performance for years to come. We recommend yearly dental examinations, including routine floating, conducted by a licensed veterinarian. Contact us to schedule your dental exam.
The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the vertebral column) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects health.
Chiropractic is a form of manual therapy that uses controlled forces applied to specific joints or anatomic areas to cause a healing response. The goal of chiropractic is to ensure smooth, coordinated movement of all spinal segments to optimize spinal joint neuromuscular function.
The benefits and uses of Chiropractic Adjustment include:
- Alleviating back and neck discomfort
- Treating lameness, and gait abnormalities
- Improving performance in the athletic horse
- Sciatic Nerve treatment
- Injury treatment
When used in conjunction with traditional medicine and acupuncture, spinal manipulation can stimulate the healing process and alleviate a variety of painful conditions. Please contact us to determine if your animals can benefit from these therapies.
Acupuncture has been used to treat various medical conditions in humans and animals for more than 3,000 years. It’s one of the therapies offered in the use of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and is defined as the stimulation of a specific point on the body (an acupuncture point) to cause a therapeutic effect.
Today, equine acupuncture is commonly incorporated to treat a variety of equine conditions and effectively minimize the use of medications.
Acupuncture has a wide variety of applications. Some of the most common include:
- Lameness
- Performance issues
- Tendon/Ligament issues
- Post-surgical rehabilitation
- Metabolic conditions
- Pain relief
- Chronic conditions, skin conditions, allergies, heaves
- Non-surgical colic
- Anxiety
