At Guardian Equine Veterinary Services, we place great importance on providing routine wellness care for your horse. Identifying potential health issues early through regular check-ups, vaccinations, and screenings can prevent more serious health problems and provide a higher quality of life.

We offer preventive care plans, pre-purchase exams, dentistry, chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture in addition to treating acute situations such as lacerations, fever, eye injury, lamenesses, neurologic horses, or abscess.

Preventive Care

Preventive care is the cornerstone of maintaining the health of your horse. By scheduling routine visits, issues can be identified early before they become more serious health problems.

We offer two wellness plans based on the needs of your horse:

All animals enrolled in Guardian Care Plans also receive discounts on additional vaccines, laboratory testing, dental procedures and Emergency Fees.

Guardian Care Plans may be initiated at any time and are eligible for 12 months after purchase. Guardian Care Plans are not transferrable or refundable.

Pre-Purchase Exams

A pre-purchase exam is a vital step in the horse-buying process, providing comprehensive insight into the horse’s current health status, potential underlying issues, and suitability for your intended use.

Our approach is tailored to your specific needs, aiming to equip you with detailed information essential for making an informed purchase decision. During the evaluation, horses are neither “passed” nor “failed” but thoroughly assessed based on your objectives and requirements.

Key Components of the Exam:

Routine Elements:

General physical examination
Ocular assessment
Cardiovascular evaluation (both at rest and post-exercise)
Lameness assessment, including flexion tests and dynamic evaluation

Optional Components:

Digital radiographic survey
Standard bloodwork (CBC, biochemistry, Coggins test, drug screening)

Equine Dentistry

Proper dental care is a vital aspect of maintaining your horse’s overall health and performance levels within a routine wellness program.

At Guardian Equine Veterinary Services, we emphasize the significance of regular preventative dental care to ensure your horse’s well-being and optimize their athletic capabilities.

Please contact us if your horse is exhibiting any of the following clinical signs:

It’s important to recognize that dental abnormalities can have serious consequences, including interference with digestion, colic, chronic jaw and neck stiffness, and even lameness.

During our comprehensive examination, we employ a full-mouth speculum and gentle sedation to facilitate a thorough assessment and effective treatment.

Chiropractic Adjustment

The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the vertebral column) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects health.

Chiropractic is a form of manual therapy that uses controlled forces applied to specific joints or anatomic areas to cause a healing response. The goal of chiropractic is to ensure smooth, coordinated movement of all spinal segments to optimize spinal joint neuromuscular function.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used to treat various medical conditions in humans and animals for more than 3,000 years. It’s one of the therapies offered in the use of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) and is defined as the stimulation of a specific point on the body (an acupuncture point) to cause a therapeutic effect.

Today, equine acupuncture is commonly incorporated to treat a variety of equine conditions and effectively minimize the use of medications.
